Why should we learn Tajweed rules?
Tajweed principles assist reciters in becoming more proficient at reciting the Quran by appropriately pronouncing each letter according to its guidelines. Quran: “ ..and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation.” Hadith:
“The one who is proficient with the Qur’an will be with the noble and righteous scribes (the angels), and the one who reads it and stumbles over it, finding it difficult, will have two rewards.”
What are heavy and light letters?
Each letter in the Arabic script has both heavy and light sounds. However, this word has no meaning. It's only to make the heavy letters of Arabic Tajweed letters easier to remember.
Heavy letters: ØHeavy letters are pronounced with a full mouth.
ØThese are called Tafkheem, which means thickening or making heavy.
ØHeaviness is given by elevation of tongue.
ØThere are 7 heavy letters
Light letters:
ØLight letters are pronounced with a less open mouth.
ØThese are called Tarqeeq, which means thinning or lightening.
Lightening is given by lowering the tongue
Gingival letters: There are 3 letters which are pronounced by touching the tip of the tongue on the upper front of the teeth and by-passing air through it.
